Our Purpose.
The Edgecombe County Veterans Military Museum was founded in 2004 by local veteran and attorney, Joel Bourne. Several Edgecombe County residents and veterans assisted in establishing a Veterans Museum to honor those from Edgecombe County that had served or continued to serve our armed forces.
Over the years, the museum has grown which now includes over 1,250 framed portraits of veterans, over 3,500 artifacts on display from the Revolutionary War through Afghanistan, a significant collection of World War I items and a room dedicated to General Hugh Shelton, former Chairman, Joint Chief of Staff, who is from Edgecombe County. Displays are changed frequently as artifacts are added.
